One of Russia and the world's favorite opera stars, Dmitri Hvorostovsky has cancelled the performance at the Wiener Staatsoper, scheduled for September 30. At the insistence of his doctors, the 53 year old baritone will undergo another course of chemotherapy. Hvorostovsky says that he and his doctors are optimistic, and that he eagerly awaits his upcoming concerts in Germany and abroad.
According to the news, the Bolshoi theatre has not yet received notification of the participation of the singer in the Opera "don Carlos", for performances to be held on 7 and 10 December. Last summer of last year Hvorostovsky was diagnosed with a brain tumor. The star left the following message on his Facebook and his official fan site:
My dear friends,
I am disappointed to have to withdraw from Simon Boccanegra at the Wiener Staatsoper. This follows my doctors’ orders that I undergo another round of chemotherapy.
I am optimistic about these treatments and look forward to my upcoming concerts in Germany and beyond.
In the meantime, I thank you all for your continued well-wishes, good vibes, and love.
Everyone at Our Russia would like to wish Dmitri a speedy recovery and our best wishes. We leave you with our favorite performance by the artist, the music video "You and I".
