Despite a horrendous drought that affected some 1.5 million hectares of agricultural land, Russia's grain harvest will exceed 100 million tons. The head of the Ministry of Agriculture, Alexander Tkachev told Russia 24 the drought was not nearly as severe as some expected.
Tkachev went on to say that the 100 million tons may in fact be a conservative estimate, and that the harvest may actually be more. According to the Minister, the country's agriculture sector has been on the rise this year, unlike many other sectors of the economy. Preliminary data says that production of agricultural products is expected to rise by 2% this year.

Tkachev also reported on the unprecedented support for the agriculture in industry, which stands at 137 billion rubles.
