The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum was not only the scene of crucial international business networking last week, the vent also saw an offshoot five kilometer SPIEF Race on Friday morning last. Among those participating were Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova and Sberbank CEO Herman Gref.
Ms. Zakharova shared the secret of race running with her Facebook and Instagram subscribers saying: "Always make selfies before the start and publish them online at once. Then you will not be able to withdraw." The selfie below shows the Defense Ministry spokeslady means what she says. As for the rest of the participants, organizeers say some 650 people applied to participate in the race, but that only some showed up at St. Isaac’s Cathedral at 6:30 a.m. to run.
The race circuit took participants past the Winter Palace, the Church of Savior on the Spilled Blood, Kazan Cathedral and other St. Petersburg landmarks. The event was organized for the first time by World Class Russian fitness club chain and the Roscongress Foundation. Dmitry Razumov was the official winner of SPIEF-2016, and he took away a Premium package badge for the next year’s forum.
The Israeli Embassy Moscow shared a tweet of Zvi Heifetz running alongside Dmitry Peskov (above). RT shared video of Peskov and others starting, running, and finishing the race.
